Privacy and waves

The three links, withdrawal waves, and what privacy depends on.

Three things can tie a payout back to your deposit on a public chain: the address, the amount and the time. SHADOW counts them before every send and shows how to cut each one.

Address

Paying the wallet that deposited is the strongest link. Send to a wallet that has never touched yours.

Amount

A unique amount on both sides is a fingerprint. Use the round amounts the app suggests, which many other people send too.

Time and waves

Advanced payouts are not sent when you click. They wait for the next wave (every 15 minutes) and leave together, in random order. Fast payouts arrive in seconds but keep the timing link. See the interactive explainer.

The crowd

Privacy is only as strong as the number of people using the pool. Early on, with few deposits, payments are easier to match even with waves and round amounts. Waiting longer between shielding and paying helps.

What the operator sees

The SHADOW server sees the IP address of requests (deposits and payouts). It does not log them, but if that matters to you, use a VPN or Tor. It never sees your keys or which notes are yours.
